Doodle Families is an 8-week family literacy programme. Its aim is to help parents better understand their child’s learning style and support literacy practices within the home.
The programme is manualised and based on experiences of working with parents and children over several years. The programme has been independently evaluated and proven to improve practices and attitudes towards literacy.
There are two components to the programme, a parental component and child component. Each are delivered separately. Parents explore areas such as learning styles, supporting oral language development, storytelling, reading and writing. The child’s component reflects the adult content but, in a fun, developmentally appropriate way. The child component is complimented with a Doodle Diary, which children and parents can contribute to, and document their journey together.
If you would like to learn more about Doodle Families please join us for an information session where Emma Reilly and colleagues will give an outline and practical advice on running a programme in your school.
